Round Rock District Wins "What Parents Want Award"

In 1999, Round Rock ISD was selected by SchoolMatch.com for the Eighth Annual "What Parents Want" Award. Only about 14 percent of the nation's 15,620 school systems received this honor. SchoolMatch, an independent, nationwide service, helps corporate employee families find schools that match the needs of their children. The company also conducts educational effectiveness audits of school systems, assists corporations with site selection studies, and offers pre-employment background screening services to schools.

SchoolMatch has developed research and criteria based on a database of more than 60,000 parent questionnaires to identify "what parents want" in public schools. According to their information, parents most often look for school systems that are competitive in academic test scores and academically solid but not intimidating; accredited; recognized for excellence by a national foundation or the U. S. Department of Education; competitive in teacher salaries; above average in instructional expenditures on a national percentile basis; above average in expenditures for library/media services on a national percentile basis; and known for small class size.

Using this criteria, the SchoolMatch staff confirmed that Round Rock ISD "is among a select group fitting the model of 'what parents want'". Click here for more information: http://www.schoolmatch.com

Real Estate Tips
Buying Land and New Construction >Buying Property to Build

The ideal piece of land cannot be purchased without due diligence. Say you notice a lot for sale in a suburban area that looks like a perfect place to build your dream home. Buying undeveloped land can provide an opportunity to build a house that will meet your needs, but you will need certain information before you sign on the dotted line.

Most suburban areas have zoning regulations which govern the type of structure that can be erected, the dimensions, and even the material used on the exterior. Historic preservation groups work with builders in many areas to ensure that any new construction fits in with the existing buildings. If you want to build out of the city limits, check the availability of public utility services and the cost of bringing those services to the site. Local planning and zoning boards can provide you with information about proposed development that could change your quiet country lane into a busy street.

It is a good idea to consult an architect and a zoning expert to confirm that your vision will work on the property you have selected.
